My potential as a teacher (practice)
MY POTENTIAL AS A TEACHER
I have a positive attitude towards teaching and learning. I am passionate about children, their development, potential and aspirations, as well as bilingualism. Lately, I am discovering that I enjoy working with older children and teenagers. Currently, I am teaching individual students and my plan is to continue it. I even consider taking on board some more students. I believe that teachers should be knowledgeable; therefore, I plan to continuously read, learn, reflect and improve my practices to provide meaningful teaching. I think that I am flexible and I easily adapt to new circumstances. I do not have problems with my creatively, but I consider purchasing some teaching materials because it may improve my teaching. During this year, I worked on my confidence which improved and I am extremely proud of it. Therefore, I feel ready for the teaching profession including work under pressure or being open to others' needs. The only worry which I have is that I am a highly sensitive person and I need to work on accepting criticism, so when I am faced with demanding parents I can handle them with ease.
I am able to form aims and objectives of the lesson; however, I think I could still improve it. I do not have any problems with selecting appropriate materials, diversifying activities including the different types work (individual, pairs or groups work). Providing the justification for teaching decisions seems also not a big problem for me, but perhaps, more practice will be valuable for my development. I believe that motivation is significant aspect of learning and I willingly support students in developing and maintaining their motivation. In order to support students, it is important to observe their actions and identify their problems; however, consultations with the student are crucial. I think that teaching should be based on communication. Both me and my students need to be given some freedom to express views and worries. Besides, students who receive detailed feedback with suggestions for improvement might be more likely to progress with learning. However, I think that I need some more practice with giving feedback to improve it. I believe that by being reflective and paying attention to what I say in the classroom, I am likely to provide meaningful feedback.
What are you the most proud of considering the last year?
